Suspension Intervention Program

Suspension Intervention Program

AC Academic Suspension Policy

A student who has earned a GPA that falls below 2.0 at Amarillo College for two consecutive semesters will be placed on academic suspension (not to be confused with financial-aid suspension). When this happens, the student will not be allowed to re-enroll until they have laid out the following semester (Summer Session I & II are considered “a semester”). Exception: Should a student who is coded “On Academic Suspension” wish to continue their education and not lay out for the required “one semester,” they may participate in the Suspension Intervention Program.

Suspension Intervention Program
Since you have been notified that you have been placed on academic suspension, the support staff at Amarillo College wants to provide professional intervention services that will empower you to have a successful college experience. It is our wish that you understand the value of making good choices, setting goals, and believing in yourself. Therefore, you are being given the opportunity to participate in this program rather than interrupt your educational studies. Good Luck!

Step 1  To participate in the program, check with the Advising Department, Student Service Center 130 or call 371-5440 for guidelines. ACE students need to call the Student Support Services Office at 371-5420.

We will begin enrolling students in the program on August 17, 2009 and the last day to put anyone in the Suspension Intervention Program will be August 24, 2009

Step 2  All students that want to participate in the Suspension Intervention Program MUST make an appointment with their academic advisor in order to get registered in the program. It is your responsibility to set an appointment with your academic advisor for the first intervention session.

All Education majors participating in Suspension Intervention need to be sent to Margie Vitale (DUR 205C) and ALL Criminal Justice majors participating in Suspension Intervention need to be sent to Cherie Clifton (WCLH 102A).

Step 3  Create your schedule which will include a study skills or other appropriate class.

Step 4  Meet at least two additional times throughout the semester with the advisor. These sessions will include goal setting, grade check, career exploration, academic planning, etc.
Please have your Grade/Attendance Progress Report signed by instructors before your meeting with your advisor.

Step 5  Earn at least a 2.0 GPA for the semester.

Conditions of Participation:

May participate only one time
Cannot drop prescribed intervention class unless you withdraw from all other classes
Make the decision to give this opportunity your best effort

See your Academic Advisor for participation in the
