Calculating Your Grade Point Average
GPA
Grade points represent the translation of letter grades into numerical values.
The grades that have value are:
A 4.0 grade points for 1 credit
B 3.0 grade points for 1 credit
C 2.0 grade points for 1 credit
D 1.0 grade points for 1 credit
F 0.0 grade points for 1 credit
The semester GPA is the result of dividing the semester grade point total by the number of semester hours attempted (excluding any Incompletes, Withdrawals and Audits). An example of how to compute the grade point average is provided below.
| Course Name | Credits | Grade Points |
| ENGL 1301 | 3 | C 3 credits X 2 points= 6 |
| BIOL 1406 | 4 | B 4 credits X 3 points= 12 |
| PSYC 2301 | 3 | F 3 credits X 0 points= 0 |
| MATH 0302 | 3 | A 3 credits X 4 points= 12 |
| PHED 1102 | 1 | A 1 credit X 4 points= 4 |
14 credits | 34 points |
34/14= 2.43 GPA
The cumulative GPA is the result of dividing the total of all grade points earned by the total number of hours attempted (excluding Incompletes, Withdrawals, and Audits). Cumulative grade point does not include developmental course work grades.
| Course Name | Credits | Grade Points |
| ENGL 1301 | 3 | C 3 credits X 2 points= 6 |
| BIOL 1406 | 4 | B 4 credits X 3 points= 12 |
| PSYC 2301 | 3 | F 3 credits X 0 points= 0 |
| MATH 0302 | (3)* | A |
| PHED 1102 | 1 | A 1 credit X 4 points= 4 |
| 11 credits attempted | 22 points earned |
22/11= 2.0 GPA
*Since no grade points or hours are given for Incompletes, Withdrawals, Audits, or developmental work, the credits for MATH 0302 are not used in computing the cumulative GPA. Grades for developmental course work are only used for calculating the semester’s GPA. The semester GPA is used to determine Probation and Suspension status.
