Take Off Into The Future

Get the skills you need to assemble the most technologically advanced aircraft in the world.  The Bell Helicopter / Boeing V-22 Osprey and its civilian counterpart, the Bell/Agusta BA 609 are the aircraft destined to revolutionize air transportation for the general public in the near future and for the military now. 

Our certificate in Aerospace Manufacturing prepares and qualifies graduates to manufacture mechanical and electrical components, subassemblies for these aircraft and most other modern aircraft.  Amarillo College worked with the aerospace industry to develop a curriculum that includes: Aircraft Composites, Aircraft Electrical and Electronic Systems, Aeronautical Drafting, Fasteners and Statistical Process Control.  Other coursework includes: Introduction to Environmental Safety and Health, Shop Practices - Aerospace Manufacturing and Technical Mathematics.

The Aerospace Manufacturing Certificate takes approximately two semesters to complete.  Amarillo College offers both day and evening schedules to fulfill the needs of your busy lifestyle.  Students have 5 opportunities per year to attend classes that are eight weeks in duration.  This flexibility for the student is to meet the industry's demand for individuals with these basic manufacturing skills in Aerospace Manufacturing.  Students can enroll in these classes at the beginning of each semester and at eight weeks into the semester. (August, October, January, March, and May).  Students can also continue their education with courses in the 'NEW"  AAS Degree Program in Aerospace Manufacturing.

The average "highly skilled" assembler on the floor makes $ 24.00 per hour at the Amarillo Bell Helicopter assembly plant (Amarillo Globe News, August 12, 2008, page 4A) 

Bell, Boeing get $55.6 Million contract for V-22 aircraft.  The Bell Boeing Joint Project Office in Amarillo has been been awarded a $55.6 million contract modification to incorporate aircraft engineering changes on V-22 aircraft, including the conversion of nine MV-22 aircraft from Block A to upgrade Block B configurations.  About twenty percent of the work will be done in Amarillo.(Amarillo Globe News, December 11, 2008, page 1C).

Bell projects that in 2009 it will fill 140 positions.  Several hundred more positions could be added over the next four years.  Bell Helicopter is currently expanding one hanger at the Amarillo facility to handle increased activity.  (Amarillo Globe News, January 31, 2009, page 3A).

The Amarillo Economic Developement Corp. board of directors voted to build a 137,000-square-foot flight hanger ($ 31 Million) for Bell's H-1 program, which builds UH-1Y and AH-1Z helicopters for the Marines.  The Amarillo Bell Helicopter plant now employs more than 800 workers and the expansion is projected to increase the workforce to 1,377 workers by 2013.  Bell Helicopter forecast a growth in head count of 140 people in 2009.  (Amarillo Globe News, February 5, 2009, page 1A).

Commissioners approved an Amarillo Economic Development Corp. project that would provide Bell with up tp $ 31 million for construction of a 137,000 square-foot hanger along with the associated concrete flight ramp.  The project will start in October and finish in October 2010.  It is expected to create more than 450 jobs by 2013.  (Amarillo Globe News, February 11, 2009, page 4A).

 Amarillo College is now offering the new Associate Degree in Aerospace Manufacturing beginning 2009.  Evening classes have started (eight weeks only) for each course to fit your busy lifestyle.  Each course is eight weeks in length and the student has five (5) opportunities during the year (August, October, January, March and May) to begin training for employment opportunities with Bell Helicopter, Composite Shapes, Amarillo Gear, and Headsets, Inc. to to name a few of the companies that have employed Aerospace Manufacturing Certificate Graduates.
