About Automotive and Diesel Programs
The Amarillo College Transportation Technology department offers degrees and certificates for students who want to work in the automotive and diesel industries. The programs vary in length and include:
- 12-month Automotive Collision Certificate
- 12-month Chassis & Body Certificate
- 18-month Power Train Certificate
- 18-month Diesel Technology Certificate
- 24-month Automotive Technology Degree
Goals of the program
The Transportaion Technology program provides quality, hands-on education, whether you are a beginning student or retraining for a new carreer. We also provide state of the art private training as needed by our industy colleagues. Our goal is that all students achieve a level of training, in which they feel comfortable in thiier knowledge of thier chosen field of mechanical training, securing themselves a profitable place in the workforce.
Automotive Technology
Earn a Certificate of Completion or an Associate of Applied Sciene degree in Automotive Technology. The Automotive Technology program prepares students for the ASE (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence) certification exams. Students learn how to diagnose problems and repair cars and trucks using the latest in automotive test equipment through instruction and hands-on laboratory settings.

Chassis and Body
Because of the continued increase in technology in the automotive industries, the demand for qualified technicians remains high. Local salary ranges from $11-$26 per hour and increases in larger cities.
