Focusing on Amarillo’s Future

Posted: August 19, 2009

Three members of the Amarillo College family have assumed voluntary leadership roles in a new initiative aimed at making Amarillo an even better place to live.

Regent Lilia Escajeda, Lulu Cowan, special assistant to the president, and David Hernandez, chairman of the Business Division, are members of the City’s new Comprehensive Plan Committee.

The Comprehensive Plan is an opportunity for all Amarilloans to assist in establishing community priorities regarding growth, economic development and quality of life. Community input is essential as Amarillo defines its path to the future, and Amarillo College community input is encouraged—from students, faculty and staff.

Four community meetings have already been scheduled at Amarillo elementary schools, where the committee will gather visions and goals that will help guide the city’s development decisions that lie ahead.
