Amarillo College Community Link will be able to provide scholarship awards for approximately 150 students for English language classes and GED preparation and testing thanks to a grant from its newest partner—Panhandle Community Services (PCS).
Through this partnership, PCS will provide $9,855 to AC’s Community Link to enhance the services provided to those students with a financial need. These funds are made available through Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs.
The grant will be formalized at a special presentation at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28 at Community Link, 2412 N. Grand St.
With a staff of four, Community Link provides outreach services, including English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) classes, General Education Development (GED) preparation and testing, basic computer skills training, and advising services to low-income nontraditional minority students. The ultimate goal of the program is to prepare these students for workforce training and higher education.
