Dental hygiene education requires 31 hours of general education requirements and 2 years of DHYG curriculum including a summer session for completion. Applications for the Dental Hygiene Program are received until the last day of February each year. Enrollment in the program is limited with the maximum number of 28 positions available per class. Students are accepted into the program in strict accordance with very specific admission criteria that is described in the application packet.
Official transcripts from all Colleges and Universities must be included in the application materials. It is the student's responsibility to make application each year. Students who are not accepted into the Dental Hygiene Program may choose to reapply to the program for the following year. If a student chooses to re-apply to the program, a new application packet must be submitted. In addition to the program application, students who are accepted into the Dental Hygiene Program must also complete an application to Amarillo College. To ensure that a student has completed all steps in the application process, a final checklist found in the application packet is available for optional use by each applicant.

These policies are available in the Program Director’s office and in the Amarillo College Dental Hygiene Student Manual. Dental Hygiene faculty will discuss or answer any questions that an applicant may have concerning these policies.
