External Learning Experience Responsibilities

Student/Employee Responsibilities

  1. You have the over-all responsibility to see that all requirements of the External Learning Experience are performed as spelled out in this guide.
  2. Complete and submit an application to the program manager for your major area of study.
  3. Read and sign the External Learning Experience Training Agreement.
  4. Establish objectives with the help of your supervisor and instructor.
  5. Attendance at the work site.
  6. Attend all seminars and complete required seminar activities if enrolled in Cooperative Education class.
  7. Complete and sign Student Objective Report and return to instructor at the end of each semester, unless instructor gives alternative assignments.
  8. Complete additional assignments as may be required by individual departments.


Instructor Responsibilities

  1. Complete a minimum of two on-site visits. Student, supervisor and instructor should be present at each visit.
  2. Provide for 16 hours of student seminar activities each semester (for Cooperative Education students only).
  3. Submit to office of External Learning Experience a copy of the signed Training Agreement (Form ELE 1) and Job-Related Learning Objectives (Form ELE 2) and Student Evaluation Form (Form ELE 4).
  4. Review student’s work attendance with supervisor.
  5. Submit student’s grade, Student Evaluation Form (Form ELE 4) and other appropriate student records at the end of the semester to the External Learning Experience office.
  6. Instructor should assist the student in the development of learning objectives. The learning objectives should be based on employer's needs and the program’s competency profiles.


Employer/Sponsoring Agency Responsibilities

  1. Agree to participate in the External Learning Experience Program and sign the Training Agreement (Form ELE 1).
  2. Assist student in developing and achieving job-related learning objectives.
  3. Participate in a minimum of two on-site visits with instructor.
  4. Verify student work attendance with instructor.
  5. Participate in student evaluation.
