Introduction to Amarillo College External Learning Experience Program
An External Learning Experience is a competency-based learning experience that enhances lecture and laboratory instruction, and is provided at work sties approximate to your field of study. The purpose of this guide is to acquaint you with Amarillo College’s External Learning Experience Program (ELE) that is offered through technical certificates, and associate of applied science degree programs.
The ELE allows you to have practical, hands-on training and to apply learned concepts and theories in a workplace setting. There are four types of External Learning Experiences:
- Clinicals
- Internships
- Practica
- Cooperative Education
Each program of study determines the type of External Learning Experience that best meets the needs of the student.
As an ELE student, you will find that your studies have greater relevance when you combine on-the-job experience with classroom instruction. This integration of work and study increases your competence and motivation because it reinforces why learning is necessary. Also, your interaction with co-workers and supervisors helps you develop important human relations skills. As an ELE student, you are the most important link between your instructor, the college, and the employer/sponsoring agency.
