Advanced Placement Option (LVN to RN)

LVN to RN Advanced Placement Option

The LVN to RN Advanced Placement Option is a career path that allows Texas Licensed Vocational Nurses to receive advanced placement into the Associate Degree Nursing Program.  Applicants must have an unencumbered Texas license, be active in nursing within the past four years, and meet all requirements for admission to Amarillo College and the Associate Degree Program.

  • Students with documented nursing courses may also be candidates for advanced placement, pending approval of the Nursing Division Chair.  Credit will be granted to qualifying students on an individual basis and in accordance with the nursing curriculum based on their education and experience.
  • Students may petition to receive credit for HPRS2200--Pharmacology for Health Professionals, if an equivalent credit course was part of the vocational nursing program of study.  Courses must be approved by the Nursing Division Chair prior to receiving advanced placement credit.  Any student may request to take a comprehensive exam in Pharmacology in the Nursing Division.  A passing score on this exam will qualify a student for credit in HPRS2200--Pharmacology for Health Professionals.  Students must contact the Nursing Division Chair for additional information.
