CLEP (College Level Examination Program)

The CLEP exams provide an opportunity for students to earn college credit through examination. CLEP exams measure college-level achievement in specific course areas. There are 34 different exams available. CLEP exams are administered using a computer-delivered system. Computerization offers many benefits, including more flexible assessment scheduling, instantaneous scoring and credit-granting decisions, and enhanced assessment-development processes.

Registration and Payment Information:

1. To register, candidates must complete the required registration form (back form ONLY) and return it to the Testing Center. At the time of registration, the candidate must make an appointment for the CLEP exam as well as pay a $20 non-refundable fee to Amarillo College for each CLEP exam scheduled. Registration must be completed at least a week in advance of the date of the assessment
2. The cost of each CLEP exam is $77. Candidates may pay by credit card (preferred), or check or money order made payable to CLEP. Candidates must pay separately for each exam scheduled. Do not combine fees even if exams are to be taken on the same day. The CLEP fee is due on the day of the exam.  In addition, a fee of $10.00 is required for processing of essays for College Composition Modular, English Literature, and American Literature.  There is no additional fee for College Composition.
3. It is the candidate's responsibility to call the Testing Center at 806-371-5445 to reschedule an appointment if he/she is going to be late or cannot take the assessment at the appointed time. If a candidate fails to do so, the following penalties will apply:
   
   ·Forfeit the use of the computer for that day.
   ·Forfeit the $20 fee to Amarillo College.
   ·Will have to pay an additional $20 fee to Amarillo College to reschedule the exam.
    
4. Candidates who are taking the College Composition Modular assessment may be required to write an essay. It is the responsibility of the student to determine whether or not an essay is required for credit at the college they will be attending. All Amarillo College students must write an adequate essay to gain credit for College Composition Modular.

Only CLEP Examinations listed here have been approved for establishing credit at Amarillo College. An essay is required for the College Composition Modular, and will be used for granting credit. Credit may be awarded or denied for either or both classes on the sole basis of the essay evaluation. Contact the Testing Center for further information and CLEP registration materials. AS OF SEPTEMBER 1ST, 2011, EXAMINEES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAVE ANY ELECTRONIC DEVICE, INCLUDING CELL PHONES, IN THE TESTING ROOM.  PLEASE LEAVE THESE ITEMS IN YOUR CAR OR AT HOME.
