GED (General Education Development) Test - VALID Photo ID Required

Amarillo College Testing Services administers the GED for high school equivalency certification. GED testing meets federal legislative guidelines for Ability to Benefit (ATB) for higher education. ATB qualification is required for students without high school diplomas to be eligible to receive federal financial aid for college. (See Financial Aid for more ATB information.) The GED test measures high school level proficiency in five areas: Writing Skills, Social Studies, Science, Literature, and Mathematics. Separate publications are available which describe the content of each part of the test.

Eligibility for Testing:
ALL PAYMENT & APPLICABLE FORMS MUST BE COMPLETED & SUBMITTED AT TIME OF ORIENTATION/REGISTRATION.
Registration and Fees:
All candidates are REQUIRED to attend one orientation/registration session. They are held at 9:00 a.m. each Tuesday. Please, be prompt. Registration will be completed and the GED test sessions scheduled at this time. Registration must be completed by the end of the business day before the test date. GED examinees may be able to test the same day of orientation if space permits.
Beginning January 1, 2010, all candidates registering for GED testing are required to complete an online Demographic form. The demographic form provides necessary information to create a record for you at the University of Texas Scoring Center where your GED test will be scored. We have been asked by the UT Scoring Center to assure you that their computer system is secure, so please provide all information requested. Click here for instructions to complete your Online Demographic Form. Demographic forms must be complete before examinees begin testing. The fee for the GED test is $80 and is payable at the time of registration. Amarillo College accepts cash, check, money order, and credit/debit cards. GED candidates MUST bring a valid ID (see verification of identification), and their social security card to register.
Students must register in advance for the session they want to test. NO LATE EXAMINEES WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE TEST ROOM.
Verification of Identification:
All GED candidates requesting to take the GED exam must provide valid Texas identification when they appear at the Testing Center. Acceptable forms of identification include government-issued identification (both national and foreign), provided that the identification includes date of birth, photograph, address and signature (i.e., drivers’ licenses, motor vehicle department identification cards for non-drivers, passports, military and other government identification cards, and current post-secondary school identification that includes the candidates name, date of birth, photograph, address and signature). NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE TO THIS POLICY.

The GED is administered at Amarillo College in the Testing Center, located in the Student Service Center, Room 101 each Tuesday and Wednesday. Exams are offered on the following days and times:
GED Schedule Tuesdays:(Washington Street Campus)
9:00 AM – Orientation (One Time Requirement)
12:00 PM – Mathematics ONLY
3:00 PM – Science, Social Studies, or Reading ONLY
5:00 PM – Science, Social Studies, or Reading ONLY
Wednesdays: (Washington Street Campus)
9:00 AM – Science, Social Studies, or Reading ONLY
12:00 PM – Writing ONLY
3:00 PM – Science, Social Studies, or Reading ONLY
**The GED test is also administered on the Moore County campus in Dumas. Please contact the Moore County campus at 806-934-7220 for information regarding orientation session dates and times.**
Scoring and Results:
The Texas requirement for passing the GED exam is a total score of at least 2250 points (450 average) with no score less than 410 on each individual part of the exam.
Please allow two to three weeks after completion of all five parts of the GED exam for receipt of scores and certificate.
Retesting Information:
Failed tests may be retaken without a wait period as of January 2012. Each examinee may attept each portion of the GED three times per year. Examinees must contact the Testing Center to schedule a retest date and bring $20 per test to the Testing Center on test day.
