Program Summary

Institute of Ethical LeadershipThe Institute of Ethical Leadership will provide you with the skills to mobilize others in your organization to follow a shared vision. Learn the practices that leaders share to move their employees to the next level. Each monthly sessions explores the distinct aspects of being an Ethical Leader through readings, presentations by local leaders, discussions, and projects.

Kouzes and Posner state in their book, Leadership Challenge (John Wiley & Sons, 2003), there are five practices of exemplary leadership. These are:

  • Model the Way - Leaders model the way with clear guiding principles
  • Inspire a shared vision - Leaders inspire a shared vision that invents the future
  • Challenge the process-Leaders challenge the process by stepping out into the unknown
  • Enable others to act - Leaders foster collaboration and build trust
  • Encourage the heart - Leaders perform genuine acts of caring that uplift the spirits and draw people forward

 



Facilitator

John Donnerberg has spent thirty years learning to challenge, lead and inspire others to make strategic changes in order to experience personal transformation and organizational effectiveness. he completed his undergraduate work at Mt. Vernon Nazarene University, and received a masters from Lubbock Christian University.

As an ordained minister with thirty years of experience, John has traveled the U.S. conducting conferences and revivals. He enjoys the challenge of developing individuals who embrace the leadership challenge. John believes it is the desire for personal improvement and growth that compels an individual to reject the status quo and reach forward to make a difference and pursue excellence. He is currently the pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene in Amarillo.

Warren Bennis (1989) drew twelve distinctions between the two groups:

  • Managers rely on control; LEADERS inspire trust

  • Managers accept status quo; LEADERS challenge the status quo
  • Managers have an eye on teh bottom line; LEADERS have an eye on the horizon
  • Managers imitate; LEADERS originate
  • Managers emulate the classic good soldier; LEADERS are their own person
  • Managers copy; LEADERS show originality
