AC’s Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) program will host the NAEHS induction ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3 in the Oak Room of the College Union Building on the Washington Street Campus. Jacqui Jones, AEL director, will serve as mistress of ceremonies.
Keynote speakers will be Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart, president of AC, and Edythe Carter, dean of academic success.
AC has two adult student programs whose students are eligible for NAEHS inclusion: English as a Second Language (ESL), and High School Equivalency (HSE). Inductees will receive NAEHS membership certificates and lapel pins during the formal ceremony.
They also will receive letters of recommendation from NAEHS, which can be useful in pursuit of future financial aid and employment opportunities.
To be nominated by faculty for membership in NAEHS, adult education students must demonstrate dependable attendance, a cooperative attitude, and a strong work ethic.
The mission of the NAEHS is to provide meaningful recognition to deserving adult education students, to improve student employment opportunities, to develop student ambassadors for local adult education programs, and to boost adult-education awareness.
