Michael Mattesi, veteran animator, Disney and Pixar collaborator and creator of the FORCE drawing theory, returns in April to lead another detailed workshop for Amarillo College students interested in drawing and animation.

MattesiINMattesi, who previously visited AC last September, this time will teach his popular techniques in a 12-hour workshop over two days – 12:30-6:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, April 15-16 – at Sunset Center, 3701 Plains, Blvd.

“AC’s Visual Arts Department is thrilled to welcome back special visiting artist Mike Matessi,” said Stephanie Jung, instructor of art. “Mike spent three days at AC last fall and made a tremendous impact on the students.

“There were numerous requests for an encore visit, and we are so pleased that he has agreed to return. He is a masterful teacher.”

Mattesi, whose many clients have included Marvel Comics, Hasbro Toys, DreamWorks, Nickelodeon and LeapFrog, is the author of four FORCE books published in numerous languages and used to inspire and educate artists around the world. He has widely taught his FORCE techniques for more than 20 years.

He describes FORCE as a drawing process that is not so much about the drawing as it is about the thinking and experience that creates a drawing. Many of his students have gone on to establish careers in animation, video games, graphic design and the fine arts.

“I enjoy inspiring and guiding teams to find premium creative and visual concepts across numerous product types,” Mattesi said. “I really enjoyed my stay in Amarillo last year and am pleased to be able to return.”

Jung says the visiting artist will focus on “Force to Form – creating three-dimensional forms” on the first day of the upcoming workshop. The second day will be spent on “Character Design from Life Drawing,” which will be of special interest to animators, she said.
