Truck DrivingThe transportation Industry is growing and there is a high demand for well-trained drivers. You can be one of them. This eight week course utilizes classroom instruction, range and road driving, and practical application of skills used in the operation of a tractor-trailer.

 

Summer 2018  Dates: Six-week Class; 240 hours; $3,890.00 total cost.

Night class -- June 18 - September 10; 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm, Monday through Friday

Day class -- June 25 - August 6; 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday

 

Fall 2018 Dates: Eight-week Class; 336 hours; $4,422.00 plus additional $$$.

Prerequisites

  1. Student must be 18 years of age at the commencement of the course
  2. Student must have a current, eligible and valid Texas Driver License. Student must apply for a CDL permit at the Texas Department of Public Safety office before class begins and present this document on the first class day. Prospective students may check their license eligibility at the following link: https://www.texas.gov/licenseeligibility         
  3. Student will be required to take a DOT physical and drug screen before the first day of class. These documents must be presented on the first class day. Fees, books and expenses are not included in the cost of the course. 

Students who successfully complete the entire course will receive a class "A" Commercial Driver License (CDL), a certificate of completion, and be qualified to secure an entry-level job as a Commercial Motor Vehicle driver. Amarillo College is not an employment agency, nor do we guarantee the Texas Department of Public Safety will issue a license. Students will have ample training, opportunity and assistance to talk with visiting recruiters, apply for employment, and pass the DPS written and skills tests with an Amarillo College vehicle.

Job Outlook

Employment for heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers is projected to grow 21 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations. As the economy grows, the demand for goods will increase, and more truck drivers will be needed to keep supply chains moving.
