Flipped Learning

Instructional Designers - Heather Voran and Michaela Dodson

Description: What is flipped learning? According to the Flipped Learning Global Initiative:

Flipped Learning is a framework that enables educators to reach every student. The Flipped approach inverts the traditional classroom model by introducing course concepts before class, allowing educators to use class time to guide each student through active, practical, innovative applications of the course principles.

This cohort will focus on specific components of the flipped classroom, such as:

  • Creating and Embedding Videos — what hardware tools do I need? How does VidGrid work? How long should the videos be? How do I embed questions? How do I get them into Blackboard for a grade?
  • Active learning strategies for the classroom (the Group Space) — what do I do in the classroom now that the lecture has been moved outside of class?
  • Providing Support in the Individual Space — how do I know the students understand the content of the videos? What do I do to hold them accountable, answer their questions, and provide additional resources?
