Using REBT to Effectively Cope Inside and Outside the Classroom

Participants in this PLCohort will reflect on lectures, video demonstrations, and readings from a classic text by Dr. Albert Ellis, the founder of Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy. Participants will also complete three reaction papers over the course of six weeks giving them practice in applying the REBT model to their own lives. 

Professional Learning Outcomes (PLO):

In this PLCohort, participants will be able to

  • Understand the difference between unhealthy negative emotion and healthy negative emotion and be able to apply this concept to stressful life situations.
  • Apply the four categories of Irrational (Unhealthy) Beliefs (Rigid Attitudes) and their Healthy Alternative Beliefs (Flexible Attitudes) to stressful lie situations.
  • Apply the REBT model of disputation to facilitate the participant's development of an effective new philosophy and functional new behavior towards the stressful situation.

Deliverable:

Participants in this PLCohort will engage in weekly discussion over the REBT process.  Participants will have ongoing opportunity to reflect on practices learned throughout this cohort as well as a final reflection discussing the material learned and an action plan for application of the REBT process in their own lives.
