Credit-by-Licensure

Though Amarillo College may issue college credit through a variety of specified means*, Credit-by-Licensure, also known as Professional Licensure, shall be the only method to obtain academic credit for program specific, EMSP - **** courses for those seeking a paramedic associate degree (EMSP.AAS). Students must:

  • be currently enrolled at Amarillo College (AC)
  • have an EMSP (or appropriate Fire Protection) chosen major
  • ensure successful completion of all EMSP.AAS General Education and Related Course Requirements found in the Amarillo College Academic Catalog
  • complete at least 18 semester hours of course work at AC
  • possess current NAEMT PHTLS and AHA ACLS and PALS cards
  • possess (and maintain throughout) an appropriate, valid, unrestricted Texas and/or National Registry Paramedic certificate at the time of application.

Credit-by-Licensure applications will not be accepted, or processed, until all other requirements are complete, or nearing completion...generally during the applicants final semester of AC required course work. No credit-by-examination will be awarded.

Individuals transferring appropriate EMSP-**** courses from another institution, or have previously taken EMSP-**** courses at AC, but DO NOT possess an advanced, valid, unrestricted Texas and/or National Registry certificate must RETAKE all advanced courses above their current certification status. Exceptions to this policy may be granted on an individual basis provided the first, successfully completed, advanced course occurred within the last 12-month period from the date of program application.

Courses regulated by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) are accepted per college transcript, transfer policies. Please note; other regulatory agency, institutional, and/or EMSP program criteria may also apply, which could limit or restrict the award of credits.
