How do I establish residency?

Independent:
Must not be claimed as a dependent by a parent or legal guardian on federal income taxes
Must have lived in Texas for the 12 consecutive months prior to the term of enrollment
Must have established domicile
Must be a US Citizen, Permanent Resident, or hold a US visa that allows you to establish domicile (documentation may be require)
Dependent (your parent or legal guardian must):
Claim you as a dependent on federal income taxes
Must have lived in Texas for the 12 consecutive months prior to the term of enrollment
Must have established domicile
Must be a US Citizen, Permanent Resident, or hold a US visa that allows you to establish domicile (documentation may be require)
36 Month Eligibility: (must be able to answer yes to questions 1-3)
- Students who graduated from an accredited Texas high school or completed a Texas GED
- Lived in Texas for 36 months leading up to graduation or completion of a TX GED
- Will have lived in Texas the 12 months prior to the beginning of the term of enrollment
- Are a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (documentation is required) or completes the Affidavit.
