David Wilder, a graduate of Amarillo High School, attended Amarillo College from 1961-1963, picking up numerous honors and awards along the way, including the distinguished Eldon Durrett Scholarship. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business from West Texas State University. A banker by profession, he retired in 1993 as president of First National Bank of Plainview, where he also served as vice chairman of the board and senior trust officer. While at AC, David was named Outstanding Sophomore Student and served as president of the Badger Club. The Wilders now make Plainview their home, and David was named Plainview’s Man of the Year in 1980 for his active involvement in civic organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, YMCA and the Salvation Army. He led a fund drive to build an on-campus baseball field for Wayland Baptist University, and the lighted field has since been named in his honor.
