1997—Catherine Winsett, community volunteer

Catherine Winsett graduated from Amarillo College in 1942 and attended the University of Texas. She and her husband, Dr. Merrill Winsett, dedicated years to support of the arts in Amarillo, and Catherine was co-founder of Amarillo Opera, Inc., and its supporting organization, Bravo! She also was a leader in development of KACV-TV, Amarillo Museum of Art, the Amarillo Symphony, Harrington House, Lone Star Ballet and the Golden Nail Awards. She was named a “Yellow Rose of Texas” by the Governor in 1983 and was recognized for distinctive service by the Junior League of Amarillo. She received a Golden Nail Award in 1985.
