Dr. Richard K. Archer attended AC in 1949 and 1950, studying pre-medicine and biological sciences. He graduated from Southwestern Medical School and returned to Amarillo in the late 1950s to open an internal medicine practice that served the community for decades. He was president of staff at Northwest Texas Hospital when the bond issue passed to build a new facility in the Regional Medical Center. He served eight years as a trustee of the Amarillo Independent School District. Most of the eight Archer children attended AC, including Dr. Emily Archer, an obstetrician who was named AC’s Distinguished Alumnus in 2007.
