The major budget categories are: appointed personnel, non appointed and contracted personnel, travel, supplies, equipment (minor and major equipment), major repairs and renovations, institutional contingencies, and other departmental operating expenses.
There may be several accounting expenditure object codes used within each of these major categories. The Business Office will be responsible for the proper classification of expenditure object codes.
Budget amendments will be required between major budget categories but not between object codes within major categories.
Each Executive Committee member and her/his division and department heads will be responsible for adherence to these budget amendment processes.
New appointed faculty and administrators are approved by the action of the Board of Regents and is an amendment of the budget. This approval may be subsequent to the hiring of the employee. The President of the College must approve other budget amendments involving appointed faculty members and administrators.
The President of the College must approve the hiring of appointed classified employees and budget amendments involving these personnel.
Amendment of the budget to move appointed personnel between areas or accounts in the budget requires approval by the President of the College.
Major equipment is equipment that is itemized and tracked using the College detailed equipment inventory system: all firearms, individual computer equipment with a purchase price of $500 or more, and all other equipment with a purchase price of $1,000 or more.
The President of the College must approve budget amendments involving increasing, decreasing, or shifting major equipment budgets.
The President of the College must approve the purchase of major equipment other than equipment detailed in the budget. Each Executive Committee member will be responsible for acquiring this approval when necessary.
MAJOR REPAIRS, RENOVATIONS and CONTINGENCIES
The President of the College must approve budget amendments that involve major repairs and renovations category.
The President of the College must approve amendments involving contingency funds.
ALL OTHER BUDGET CATEGORIES
The appropriate member of the Executive Committee must approve budget amendments involving all other budget categories.
