Employees may elect to reduce salary by the amount of expected premium amounts, dependent care costs, and/or health care expenses not covered by insurance to be reimbursed after expenses occur with tax free dollars. Listed below is a brief summary of the three TexFlex Plans available.
PREMIUM CONVERSION Automatically tax shelters any insurance premiums but locks you in from making certain changes in your coverage during the year. Please refer to your Summary of Benefits Booklet for further information. ERS requires that you participate in Premium Conversion.
DEPENDENT (DAY) CARE REIMBURSEMENT ACCOUNT (DCRA) This is a special tax sheltered account you can set up with the Employees Retirement System of Texas to cover day care expenses. Any money left at the end of the year that you are unable to claim for eligible day care expenses will revert to the IRS. Please refer to your Summary of Benefits Booklet for further information.
HEALTH CARE REIMBURSEMENT ACCOUNT (HCRA) This is a special tax sheltered account you can set up with the Employees Retirement System of Texas to cover certain health care expenses not covered by your insurance for you and your dependents. There is a $12 annual administrative fee for the Dependent/Health Care Reimbursement Accounts. If you elect the debit card there is a $15 annual fee.
