32nd Installment of Creative Mind Lecture Series Revisits the Past

Creative Mind 2015The late Carol Nicklaus, longtime Amarillo College professor of humanities who passed away in 2014, was a driving force in establishing AC’s popular Creative Mind Humanities Lecture Series.

This year, the Series marks its 32nd occurrence with a tribute to its founder as five prominent academicians who participated in past installments of the Series return to deliver encore, internationally flavored lectures collectively titled “Revisiting the Past: The Importance of Humanities.”

The lectures span three days, March 3-5, at two AC campuses—Washington Street and Downtown—and it will conclude with a panel discussion moderated by former AC President Paul Matney.

All the lectures are free and open to the public.

Lecture topics range from Iran’s contemporary realities to China’s Quing Dynasty to Cairo of the Arabian Nights. Featured doctoral lecturers are coming from as far away as Georgetown University, Florida Atlantic University and Rice.

Inviting former participants to revisit the lecture series (each appeared at AC between 2001-2009) and to focus on the importance of the humanities is an appropriate way for the College to honor Carol Nicklaus and her devotion to both the humanities and the Lecture Series, said Kristin Edford, instructor of humanities and event coordinator.
