How to Apply for Financial Aid

Amarillo College requires students applying for grants or loans to submit "The Free Application for Federal Student Aid" form to the Department of Education. Our federal school code is 003540.

After the FAFSA has been processed, you can submit a Stafford Loan Request. Students may choose any bank to serve as the lender on their Stafford Loan request form, as long as the bank participates in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (Stafford loans). Most credit unions do require membership by the student before being listed as a lender. Federal Family Education Loans will not be considered until all other aid has been determined.  Students must complete loans by web prior to their loan being guaranteed. No loan checks will be disbursed prior to the first day of class, but students may be able to charge books against loan balances prior to first class day.

Parents of dependent students may apply for the Parent Plus loan. To be eligible, the student must first have completed the FAFSA application at Amarillo College. Federal law requires the lender to perform a credit check before approving a PLUS loan. A pre-approval from the lender must be sent to the college before the PLUS loan will be certified by the Financial Aid Office.

To apply for an academic scholarship, submit the Amarillo College Scholarship Application to the Amarillo College Foundation Office, College Union Building, Room 206. The application deadline is typically March 1st every year. Scholarships will be awarded in May and distributed at the first of the Fall semester. Call the Foundation Office at (806) 371-5107 with inquiries.

All applications are available from the Financial Aid office. Students should apply early and must reapply each year.

The instructions provided on these forms must be followed carefully; inaccurate or incomplete information will cause delays in the processing of the application. Applications for financial aid will not be considered complete until all required forms are on file in the Financial Aid Office.

Any student or prospective student desiring grant, scholarship, or loan information may contact the Financial Aid Office at (806) 371-5310 or financial@actx.edu.
