Student Loan instructions

After the FAFSA has been processed, you can submit a Direct Loan Request through AC Connect.

  • Go to Current Student
  • Financial Aid, Financial Aid Checklist,
  • Click the Financial Aid tab.
  • Select 'Request a new loan'.

Students who wish to receive loans must be enrolled in at least six credit hours.
Once a loan has been awarded, students will be contacted via email with instructions on how to complete the Master Promissory Note and entrance counseling at www.studentloans.gov.

Direct Loans will not be considered until all other aid has been determined.
Loans are awarded for the academic year.

No loan checks will be disbursed prior to the first day of class, but students may be able to charge books against loan balances prior to first class day.

Single semester loans will be disbursed in two payments,

  • First half within 14 days of the first class date,
  • Second half after the mid-point of the semester.

First time students and first time loan borrowers must complete 30 days of enrollment prior to receiving loan funds.

Parents of dependent students may apply for the Parent Plus loan.

  • To be eligible, the student must first have completed the FAFSA application at Amarillo College.
  • Federal law requires the Department of Education to perform a credit check before approving a PLUS loan.
  • A pre-approval from the Department of Education must be sent to the college before the PLUS loan will be originated by the Financial Aid Office.
