Special Olympics Lunchtime Fundraiser

Hamburgers and hotdogs, chips, dessert and a drink all for $5 courtesy of the Panhandle Transportation Group, a subsidiary of Affiliated Foods. Test the truck-driving simulator and help send East Campus Advo employee Sam Schuster and his brother to participate in the Special Olympics State Flag Football Competition in December in Waco.

 

Free Public Screening - My Way to Olympia - Panhandle PBS

Spend your lunch hour at Panhandle PBS's main studio on Thursday, November 13th at Noon with a free public screening of the POV film, My Way to Olympia.  This event is a collaboration with the Amarillo College Common Reader Program and with POV, PBS's award-winning nonfiction film series.

Who better to cover the Paralympics, the international sporting event for athletes with physical and intellectual disabilities, than Niko von Glasow, the world's best-known disabled filmmaker?  Born with severely shortened arms, von Glasow serves as an endearing guide to London's Paralympics competition where his own stereotypes about disability and sports get delightfully punctured. Official Selection of the 2013 Berlin International Film Festival.

Lunch snacks will be provided, but attendees are also welcome to bring their own brown-bag lunch.

A meeting of the Board of Directors of the Amarillo Foundation for Education and Business will be held on November 18, 2014 beginning at 5:45 p.m. in the Underwood conference room located at 1200 Amarillo National Bank Plaza II, Amarillo, Texas. 

The subjects to be discussed or considered or upon which any formal action may be taken are listed below. Items do not have to be taken in the same order as shown on this meeting notice. Unless removed from the consient agenda, items identified within the consent agenda will be acted on at one time. 

  1. Call to Order. 
  2. Approval of Minutes from prior meetings. 
  3. Consideration and Adoption of Conflict of Interest Policy. 
  4. Receive update from Prana Development Group concerning past efforts and future recommendations. 
  5. Consider possible recommendations to the Amarillo college Board of Regents based upon Prana's report and the discussions. 
  6. Review financial information. 
  7. Review and make recommendations on Bylaws. 
  8. Adjourn.

If, during the course of the meeting covered by this Notice, the Board of Directors should determine that a closed or executive meeting or session of the Board of Directors is required, then such closed or executive meeting or session as authorized by the Texas Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code Section 551.001 et seq., will be held by the Board at the date, hour, and place given in this Notice or as soon after the commencement of the meeting covered by this Notice as the Board my conveniently meet in such closed or executive meeting or session concerning any and all purposes permitted by the Act, including, but not limited to the following sections and purposes:

Immigration Forum

The Legal Society of Amarillo College is hosting an Immigration Forum at the Downtown Campus on Tuesday, November 18th from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the Bud Joyner Auditorium (Room 111).

Topics will include the latest immigration headlining news, opinions, immigration border security and the controversial Executive Action on Immigration.

Guest Speakers will include Dr. James V. Calvi, Ph.D. Professor of Political Science at West Texas A&M University and Texas Tech School of Law Professor David N. Strange

Dr. Calvi is the co-author of three textbooks and teaching fields include constitutional and administrative law.

David N. Strange serves as an adjunct professor at the Texas Tech University School of Law. David is also board certified in Texas Immigration Law.

In addition, David N. Strange and Former US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales authored a book titled A Conservative and Compassionate Approach to Immigration Reform.
 

The goal of the forum is to have a detailed conversation about the many topics surrounding the nation's current Immigration Issues.
