
Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) offers a uniquely rewarding career as a Registered Nurse (RN) in a profession that is highly valued and respected. Amarillo College has outstanding classroom and clinical faculty members who give personal atention to each student. We are committed to helping students achieve their educational goals. Students completing the ADN curriculum are prepared to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Amarillo College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The ADN Program is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON). The ADN program received full re-accreditation status in March, 2004, by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). - To prepare entry-level nurses that meet the health care needs of individuals and families within our community and surrounding region and to take the National Council Lecensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).

- Nursing Philosophy
- Nursing is a dynamic and evolving profession providing holistic centered care within the health care system. The role of nursing is to assist in the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health. This unique role is accomplished through collaborative, caring relationships which focus on identifying and responding to the needs of individuals, families, and communities along the developmental life continuum. The practice of nursing is guided by ideas, beliefs, and values which reflect a concern for quality of life and respect for human value.
- Education Philosophy
- Nursing education is a process involving the acquisition of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values of nursing. Students take a proactive role in this process by assuming responsibility and accountability for their own learning. Faculty facilitate this process by guiding, encouraging, and inspiring students to problem solve, to gain competency and confidence in nursing practice, and to foster a commitment to lifelong learning.
- Graduate Philosophy
- The graduate of the ADN Program is prepared as a beginning practitioner to provide and manage legal and ethical nursing care in a variety of health care settings. Graduate meet the competencies of national and state agencies and are prepared to write the NCLEX-RN examination.
