Skill development in the performance of a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and standard precautions. Includes vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles and blood culture, and specimen collection on adults, children, and infants. Emphasis on infection prevention, patient identification, specimen labeling, quality assurance, specimen handling, processing, accessioning, professionalism, ethics, and medical terminology.Prerequisites: 1. Immunizations 2. Background Check 3. Drug Screen 4. Must provide a copy of a High school Diploma or GED when registering. The course requires petition for registration by a Healthcare Advisor. This is part one of a three-part curriculum. Students must pass part one prior to enrolling for part two and part three. This is a hybrid class, the internet is required.
