Alcohol Education Program for Minors

Online Course

Course Description: This program is certified by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation – Court Ordered Programs. It is required by law for minors convicted of first or subsequent offenses for the purchase, possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages in addition to assessment of a fine. Failure to complete the alcohol awareness course within 90 days of conviction will result in a license suspension of up to 6 months. This course is also appropriate for DUI-Minor offenders, and as a sanction for those who have consumed alcohol in violation of their probation or parole, are under the age of 21, and do not appear to have a major substance abuse problem.

This two-session program is designed to help participants increase their knowledge about alcohol and drugs among young people. The curriculum contains information on the following topics: societal values related to alcohol consumption by minors, the influence of alcohol advertising on young people, the physical, social and psychological effects of alcohol upon young people; the relationship between motor vehicle and other accidents and alcohol use; relevant laws relating to the purchase, possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors, drinking patterns and problems of young people including abuse and addiction and decision-making skills.

Online (Zoom) Class Option  

Phone or In Person Registration Required

To register for the Zoom class option, the student must speak directly with the Intervention Programs staff for specific instructions.

Online (Zoom) Course Criteria

Students who register for the Online (Zoom) class must meet the following criteria:

  • Participants must remain on their cameras throughout the entire class but are allowed to be off camera during course break periods.
  • Audio and visual function of the participant's equipment from each participant will be confirmed before the start of each class.
  • The instructor will not admit any participant into an online class if the participant does not have functioning audio and video capability on his or her equipment.
  • Provider will not enroll a participant into an online court-ordered program if the participant does not have compatible equipment that can allow the participant to take, attend, or complete the program.
  • Instructor will remove any participant from class who fails to remain visible on the participant's camera.
  • Program provider will not present a certificate to any participant who fails to complete a court-ordered program.

Summer 2025

Cost, Refunds, Class Transfers

The cost for this course is $65. Refunds or class transfers must be requested at least one day prior to the start of class. After this period, students will be required to register and pay for another class.

Registration

Students are required to register and pay prior to the first class. It is recommended that students register as early as possible, because classes reach maximum enrollment quickly.

Enrollment Eligibility Notice

Students with outstanding obligations to Amarillo College may not be allowed to enroll in or complete a continuing education course until their obligations are fulfilled. Students who have received a Criminal Trespass Warning from Amarillo College will not be allowed to enroll in courses held on any AC campus unless the warning has been lifted. 

Attendance

Students must be on time and attend all sessions in consecutive order. There will be no exceptions or make-up classes allowed.

Translator

Students are required to bring a translator with them if they have limited or no proficiency in the English language.
