About

Clinical Medical Assistants (CMAs) play a vital role in healthcare settings by supporting physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals in providing quality patient care. A CMA is responsible for providing direct patient care and supporting healthcare providers during examinations and procedures. Duties include taking and recording vital signs and patient medical histories, measuring height and weight for patients ranging from infants to adults, and screening patients for visual and color acuity. CMAs prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during exams, treatments, and minor office procedures to ensure efficient and quality care.

In addition to patient care, Clinical Medical Assistants perform a variety of laboratory and diagnostic procedures. These responsibilities include collecting blood and other specimens through venipuncture, performing basic laboratory tests, conducting electrocardiograms (EKGs), and preparing patients for X-rays and laboratory examinations.

CMAs also play a key role in maintaining a safe and sterile clinical environment. They are trained to sterilize instruments and equipment, properly dispose of contaminated supplies, remove sutures as directed by providers, and provide basic first aid and CPR when needed.
