About

A phlebotomist is a medical worker who draws blood from patients for various lab tests and procedures. They work in private medical labs, hospitals, and other medical facilities.

Phlebotomy classes are offered in the fall and spring semesters only.

Classes are located on the West Campus of Amarillo College.

*Note: This course fills up quickly. Make sure to be in compliance for registration and come in as soon as registration opens to ensure your spot in the class.

Prerequisites

Steps

  1. Meet with Student Coordinator
  2. Complio - Immunizations, Background Check, Drug Screen

The Complio website provides an all-in-one compliance tracking program on one platform. Complio is compatible with Chrome and Firefox browsers only. The average time to process is 5–10 days, but can take longer depending on demand.

  • Criminal Background Check = $48
  • Drug Screen = $32
  • Immunizations = $20

Required Include

Note: All shots must be completed and current to be able to register for these programs.

  1. Tetanus-Diphtheria (May look like TD, TDap, DTap, or DT on a shot record. Must have been given within the last 10 years.)
  2. Measles* (2 doses must be recorded on shot record)
  3. Mumps*
  4. Rubella*
  5. Hepatitis B (3-shot series must be completed)
  6. Chickenpox Titer OR Varicella vaccination
  7. TB Test (Dated within the last 12 months)
  8. Flu shot (seasonal)

*May appear as MMR on shot record and, if so, there must be 2 doses recorded.

Classes are held Monday & Wednesday from 6:00–9:00 PM.

Curriculum

  • PLAB 1023: Phlebotomy Lecture – 50 hrs.
  • PLAB 1060: Phlebotomy Clinical – 112 hrs.
  • PLAB 2000: Phlebotomy Professional – 24 hrs.

Program Total: 186 Hours
