3. Is the clinical schedule the same as the class schedule?
No. The clinical days and times vary from the class schedule. You will be responsible for finishing a set number of hours of clinicals to complete your program. 

4. Do you offer online classes?
At this time, all of our classes are in-person classes that include online assignments. We do not offer any online-only programs.

5. How much does the program cost?

6. Will financial aid pay for Continuing Education classes?
Amarillo College offers several options for financial aid for continuing education classes. These include:
Workforce Investment Act
T-PEG
Texas Accelerate Grant

7. Do you offer payment plans?
We do not offer any payment plans at this time. Full payment (tuition and fees) is due at the time of registration.

8. When can I register for the class?
Registration for Continuing Healthcare Education classes typically begins a little over a month before classes start. All prerequisites must be completed before a student may register. For updated registration dates, please call the Continuing Healthcare Education office at (806) 356-3686. 

9. Where do I register for the class?
You may register in-person at:

You may also register online for some programs, as long as all prerequisites have been met. Contact the Continuing Healthcare Education advisor for more information at (806) 354-6085.

10. Are there jobs available in this area once I have completed a program? 
Most of our programs have been developed based on employer focus groups stating a need for programs that will lead to these type of jobs. Every area is different and job demand varies.

Job outlook is considered fair to excellent for most of our programs.

11. Do you offer job placement?
We do not offer job placement; however, we do post jobs on our Facebook page. To view these and to receive updates, you may like our page: www.facebook.com/healthce

12. What is the pay for this type of job?
Below is the average entry-level pay for employees. These numbers are only approximate and may vary.

13. Will I get a certification?
Upon successful completion of any CHE program, students will receive a certificate of completion. 

The following programs require a state license in order to work in that field:
CNA (Certified Nurse Aide)
•    Cost of state license test is included in the tuition and fees.

Med Aide
•    Cost of state license test is NOT included in the tuition and fees.

Massage Therapy 
•    Cost of state license test is NOT included in the tuition and fees.

Other programs offer national certifications (optional):
Phlebotomy
•    Included in tuition and fees for Phlebotomy Professional.

EKG Tech
•    Included in tuition and fees for the program.

14. What do I do if my license/certification expires?

You will need to contact the governing body for your specific certification.

15. Can I take this class while in high school?
Amarillo College offers 2 programs a student can take while in High School:
CNA (Certified Nurse’s Aide)
Telemetry Monitor Tech

All other programs require a High School diploma or GED to register.

16. Will I have homework in the class?
You need to expect to have homework in every class. This includes reading and online assignments.

17. Is there tutoring available for my class?
We offer FREE tutoring for most classes. If you need help with your class, you may schedule tutoring through the Access Learning Center, located in Building B, Room 112. Contact Vivian Marshall for more information and to schedule tutoring. (806) 356-3651

18. Will I need computer or internet access for my class?
Yes. Many of our classes require completion of online assignments through Blackboard. You will also receive email updates from teachers on a regular basis. 

If you do not have access to a computer or the internet, you may use computers in our Access Learning Center. It is located in Building B, Room 112. For hours, please contact Vivian Marshall at (806) 365-3651

If you have problems accessing your Blackboard account, please call the IT Help Desk at (806) 371-5100 or contact our Continuing Healthcare Education office at (806) 356-3686. 

19. If I don’t have computer/internet access at home, where on campus can I go to study and do homework?
If you do not have internet access at home, we have an Access Learning Center on campus. It is located in Building B, Room 112. For hours, please contact Vivian Marshall at (806) 365-3651

20. Where do I get books for my class?
Books for all of the Continuing Healthcare Education classes may be purchased at the West Campus Bookstore located in Building D. 

Books for CHE classes are not available on the Washington Street Campus bookstore.

21. What will I need for my first day of class?
For a successful start, make sure to bring your book, notebook paper or spiral, and a pen. Also a willing attitude and 

22. Will I need scrubs? Are there specific colors for each program?
You will need scrubs for the following programs:

CNA
Tops – white
Bottoms – royal or AC blue

Phlebotomy
Top – Any color or use the Phlebotomy t-shirt (sold in class)
Bottoms – any color 

EKG Tech
Top – any professional-looking top (doesn’t have to be a scrub top)
Bottoms – scrub pants of any color

23. Where can I get my scrubs?
You may purchase them from Wal-Mart, Britkare, a uniform store, or any place that sells scrubs. None of the CHE classes require you to buy your scrubs from a specific store.

24. Do I need to wear scrubs for the first day of class?
No. Normal clothes are fine for the first day of class. Your instructor will let you know when you need to start wearing your scrubs.

25. What are the pre-requisites for the class?

26. How do I get advisor approval?
To get advisor approval you need to meet with the Continuing Healthcare advisor, Robyn Combs.  An appointment is encouraged and you can set one by calling (806) 354-6088 or emailing racombs@actx.edu.
