Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a class must:

  • consult with their instructor to obtain a signed academic withdrawal request form to submit to the AskAC department for processing
  • consult with the financial aid office if receiving financial aid
  • consult with the Veterans Benefit Coordinator if receiving veteran benefits
  • consult with their academic advisor to determine how withdrawing may affect their enrollment in future semesters
    • NOTE:  The Texas Education Code stipulates that students attending Texas institutions of higher education for the first time fall 2007 and later may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career, including courses from which transfer students have withdrawn at other Texas institutions of higher education. (Senate Bill 1231) Rule 4.10.

Course Description

Operation and repair of drum/disc type brake systems. Topics include brake theory, diagnosis and repair of power, manual, anti-lock brake systems and parking brakes. May be taught with manufacturer specific instructions.

Student Performance

End-of-Course Outcomes: Student will be able to utilize safety procedures; explain operation of modern brake systems, diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, drum/disc brake systems, parking brakes, and anti-lock brake systems; machine drums and rotors with current industry standard equipment.

1. Complete work order to include customer information, vehicle identifying information, customer concern, related service history, cause, and correction.(P-1)

2. Diagnose poor stopping, noise, vibration, pulling, grabbing, dragging, or pulsation concerns; determine necessary action. P-1

3. Diagnose poor stopping, noise, vibration, pulling, grabbing, dragging, or pedal pulsation concerns; determine necessary action. P-1

4. Diagnose wheel bearing noises, wheel shimmy, and vibration concerns; determine necessary action. P-1

5. Remove, clean, inspect, repack, and install wheel bearings and replace seals; install hub and adjust bearings. P-1

6. Check parking brake cables and components for wear, binding, and corrosion; clean, lubricate, adjust, or replace as needed. P-2

Expected Student Behavior

Grading Criteria

There are (TBD) days of class in this course. Each class day there will be a sign in sheet. Your final grade will be calculated on an average of your attendance, your participation in lab work, and an average of homework and quiz scores.

Class 15%-homework, quizes, etc

Attendance 35%- Being tardy will automatically count off 25 points on your attendance grade for the day, leaving early will result in a zero for the day.

Lab- 35%- Active participation in lab activities is a major part of your grade, you must be dressed appropriately to work safely on vehicles. Your willingness to work with others and maintaining a positive attitude is part of your Lab grade.

Final – %15

 

A = 90 to 100 B = 80 to 89 C = 70 to 79 D = 60 to 69 F = Below 60
