What Happens at the Intake Session?

The intake session will last about 2–3 hours and consist of the following tasks.

  • Paperwork
  • Placement testing (ESL)
  • Class expectations
  • Schedules
  • Career pathways
  • Payment instructions

What Comes Next?

Students are placed in the correct class and given next steps. They will take their enrollment information to an Ask AC location to pay/enroll in their classes and receive their official schedule. Further directions are provided at orientation.

Not for GED or ESL, but financial aid is available once you enroll in college after completing your GED.

Not yet, but in the future, ALI students will be able to take EDUC 1100 alongside their GED class.

You’ll have access to instructors, tutors, and online learning tools, plus guidance for enrolling in college once you complete your GED.

Yes. Additional documentation may be required upon enrollment, and minors may need parental or guardian permission depending on age.

A computer is helpful but not required. Most work can be done on a smartphone.

Most ESL and GED classes provide materials. Students will be told at orientation if anything needs to be purchased.

Students may switch classes or levels only with instructor and coordinator approval, depending on class availability, time left in semester, and several other factors.

Classes are held at various Amarillo College campuses and community locations. Specific locations are provided at orientation, but include West Campus (morning classes), Washington Campus (evening classes), Moore County, and Hereford Campus.

No parking permit is required.

Students should speak with their instructor or program coordinator to begin the college enrollment process.

Continuing education does not provide childcare. Reach out to your instructor if you have specific needs.
