Week Eight Projects Due with Problem and Solution Paper and Final Exam

*Maintain facilities, schedule and regulations
Project: The class will divide up into 3 groups. One will be facility. One will be personnel. One will be finance. You will write a problem and solution paper over your topic in relation to how a new center begins and solves the problems related to that area. You may research two articles in that topic. You may look at policies in the handbook on this topic. Your team will report to the class important director skills related to your team topic and share resources to support excellence in leadership.
Staff Handbook:
EDIT a solid Staff Handbook Policy on your team topic which clearly covers the important job descriptions, and policies related to successful employment at your center. If you are currently working where a Staff Handbook exists you may evaluate the handbook and write a review explaining the things you feel are essential and important in this handbook and those that should be deleted or added to the existing notebook on your topic.
The handbook for staff must include information about the Texas Core Competencies for Providers and Administrators
Each student will turn in a review but the team is encouraged to use the information to strengthen the team report for the problem and solution report.
Quality papers will be very thorough, and well organized with very few grammatical errors. Each person will be an important and contributing member.
Two (2) articles about managing people and/or a business will be collected and reviewed. These articles must come from current and highly respected journals and sources. You may use the WEB, the journals in the classroom or journals from libraries. Our AC library is available online and has reference help available to students. In the literature review, give sources, main idea, and opinion of the information. Remember a source is not an website address. It is the name of the publication and the issue number and date plus the authors name and the page number. The library website can help you with the citation examples.
After each article review is complete, write a summary (short) that connects the information to practices or recommendations for directors related to your team topic. These two articles should support information you present in the Problem/Solution paper. They will be used as a reference or a source in that paper.
Use a format for each paper, such as,
Title:
Author:
Source/Date:
Summary:
Ideas for application:
Summary of information with recommendations:
Problem/Solution Paper
This paper will describe and explain a complex issue related to serving children in a licensed facility on your team topic. The problem will be outlined with details and data. Then a solution will be recommended and the reasons for the solution will be detailed for the reader with complete information on why this solution is best. This paper should be about 10 pages long and have 2 articles used for additional support and information. The reader should be fully informed and convinced the solution is reliable and worthy of achieving. The team will have a group report to share the last week of class but the individual student will turn in a paper with their own ideas represented. It is possible that the team will divide the team topic into parts and each paper will support a part of the team presentation. (Refer to class discussions)
