Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a class must:

  • consult with their instructor to obtain a signed academic withdrawal request form to submit to the AskAC department for processing
  • consult with the financial aid office if receiving financial aid
  • consult with the Veterans Benefit Coordinator if receiving veteran benefits
  • consult with their academic advisor to determine how withdrawing may affect their enrollment in future semesters
    • NOTE:  The Texas Education Code stipulates that students attending Texas institutions of higher education for the first time fall 2007 and later may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career, including courses from which transfer students have withdrawn at other Texas institutions of higher education. (Senate Bill 1231) Rule 4.10.

Course Description

Theory, operation, diagnosis of drivability concerns and repair of ignition, and fuel delivery systems. Use of current engine performance diagnostic equipment. May be taught with manufacturer specific instructions.

Tools from ELPT 1311 syllabus are required (includes Digital Volt meter)

Battery Terminal cleaning tool.

Alligator jumper wire set.

 

Student Performance

End-of-Course Outcomes: The student will be able to utilize safety procedures; explain engine dynamics; diagnose and repair ignition and fuel delivery systems; and use current engine performance diagnostic equipment.

NATEF Course Objectives:

  • Identify and interpret engine performance concerns; determine necessary action.
  • Research applicable vehicle and service information, vehicle service history, service precautions, and technical service bulletins.
  • Perform engine absolute (vacuum/boost) manifold pressure tests; determine necessary action.
  • Perform cylinder cranking and running compression tests; determine necessary action.
  • Perform cylinder leakage test; determine necessary action.
  • Remove and replace spark plugs; inspect secondary ignition components for wear and damage.
  • Inspect and test fuel pumps and pump control systems for pressure, regulation, and volume; perform necessary action.
  • Replace fuel filter(s).
  • Inspect, service, or replace air filters, filter housings, and intake duct work.
  • Verify Idle control operation.

Attendance

Attendance is IMPORTANT, in fact it is 70% of your Grade!  (attendance 35%, lab 35%)

Calendar

MODULE 1:

Cover Computer Systems Fundamentals such as inputs and outputs and mode of  operation.

MODULE 2:

On-Board Diagnostics and Scan Tools. How to read trouble codes and how to activate on-board diagnostics. Covered will be use of code charts and erasing trouble codes.

TEST 1

MODULE 3:

Computer System Service such as diagnosing sensor operation and servicing PCM's

Fuel injection diagnosing and servicing, which includes drive cycles and Pressure testing.

 

TEST 2

MODULE 4:

Fuel tanks, pumps, lines and filters, with Injection Diagnosis and Repair. 

 Which involves repairing and replacing a fuel lines and other fuel supply components. Perform JOB SHEET No. 166 Test and replace fuel supply components. Perform JOB SHEET No. 167 service a throttle body. JOB SHEET No. 168 Testing the IAC system. JOB SHEET No. 170 Perform an injector balance test and JOB SHEET No.171 Removing and replacing an injector.

FINAL EXAM
