Department Spotlight: Advising
We're Better Together
The Amarillo College Advising Department comprises 12 advisors serving the Washington Street, West, and East Campuses. Our advisors go beyond class scheduling, often serving as barrier removers, counselors, and accountability partners. Advising is a crucial component of AC's success, ensuring each student has a clear path upon graduation, whether transferring or entering the workforce. We also have advising departments at the Hereford Campus and Moore County Campuses.
Over the past year, we've hosted breakfasts for various AC communities, reinforcing our belief that improved collaboration leads to better student outcomes. Our motto: We’re Better Together, serves as our pedagogy for impacting student’s lives. After nearly a year in the newly renovated Enrollment Center at the Washington Street Campus, we've successfully integrated with all front-facing student departments. Our extended hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 8am to 6pm, and Saturday from 9am to 1pm. During the August 2024 registration period, our department assisted 2,882 students. Our dedicated advisors have collectively contributed over 150 hours of service to the Amarillo College community.
Our success is made possible through collaboration with our triage and greeter staff, AskAC department, Registrar's Office, Financial Aid, Disability Services, Veteran's Services, and Testing Center.
In October 2024, we will transition to a new advising tool, The Registration Hub. This system will enable advisors to plan students' entire academic journey through graduation, empowering students to take charge of their time at Amarillo College. The tool will allow advisors to focus more on retention and helping students achieve their goals. Training videos for the Registration Hub will be distributed to all students. Registration for the Spring 2025 semester opens on November 4, 2024. We encourage all students to plan their schedules and obtain advisor approval in advance. Students can schedule appointments by calling 806-371-5000. Our daily schedule accommodates walk-ins from 9am to 12pm and appointments from 1:30pm to 5:30pm.
