Department Spotlight: Central Receiving
Look around your office. If you’re sitting in a chair, using college stationary, checking emails on your computer or having too much fun with some new departmental purchase, all of those items and more first came to you through Central Receiving. We are the centralized shipping and receiving location for all Potter County campuses, and assist our Deaf Smith and Moore County campuses as needed.
Who is Central Receiving and what fills our days?
Our Central Receiving program is interestingly unique. We have the ability to adapt and consolidate. Private shipping and receiving companies, such as Old Dominion Freight, SAIA Freight, FedEx, UPS and USPS, have the luxury of dedicated teams to specific aspects of their operations, such as schedulers, receivers, heavy machinery operators, sorters, delivery drivers, administrators, help desk assistants, and data entry specialists. At AC Central Receiving, all of these operational aspects are consolidated into two full-time employees and one part-time employee.
Central Receiving is made up of Gary Langford, Supervisor of Records Retention and Central Receiving, and Brandon Calcote and Jesse Boardman. You will usually see Brandon and Jesse driving around in our AC van with boxes and dollies in hand. If you see them and have any shipping questions, please feel free to ask them! Central Receiving is structured so that all three of us have insight into our operations.
How can you help our team?
One big issue we deal with is not enough information listed on the shipping label. Search and rescue ensue when only the College is listed as the recipient. Another time-consuming issue is missing items in large group shipments (Amazon in particular). Since Central Receiving works diligently to meet departmental deadlines, it is important you order your items with plenty of time to spare. When Brandon and Jesse were first hired, we had three campuses to cover. We now have six active campuses in Potter County alone!
Returning an item?
If you are a departmental purchaser, and find you need to return an item to a vendor, hopefully the vendor agrees to cover the return shipment cost. That means they will schedule a pick-up time via freight. You will either already have a return label included in your item, or they will email you one. If not, Central Receiving can make a return label for you. We will ship the items back to the vendor. If the Vendor does not agree to the return shipping costs, we will still ship them back. Just don’t be surprised at how expensive the fuel charge alone will be for your return shipment.
Can’t find an item?
We also have a collection of unclaimed items. We list them in our Etrieve database. If you do not have access to Etrieve and are missing items, reach out to us. Please have the tracking number and expected delivery date. We will look into the matter further. Brandon and I have been known to turn into Sherlock Holmes & Watson as needed.
Where can you find us?
