Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Corequisite:  MUSI 1117

Course Description

The study of analysis and writing of tonal melody and diatonic harmony, including all diatonic chords and 7th chords in root position and inversions, non-chord tones, and functional harmony.  Introduction to more complex topics, such as modulation, may occur.  Optional correlated study at the keyboard.

Log in using the AC Connect Portal

If you are an active staff or faculty member according to Human Resources, use "Exchange". All other students, use "AC Connect (Google) Email".

Expected Student Behavior

Students are expected to attend class and complete homework assignments. Major exams will include the Mid-Term and Final Exams. Students will attend class via zoom when quarantined or medically unable to attend on campus. During all zoom meetings students will have their camera on and be expected to participate for daily grades and quizzes. Campus Covid protocols will be followed by everyone on campus, failure to do so will result in removal. 

Grading Criteria

Final Grades are averaged from homework assignments and exam performance. Failure to complete homework assignments will result in a failing grade. Late submission will result in a lower grade. The material presented in this class builds upon itself, Absence from class will cause you to not understand the next level of material. Any Quiz or Exam score lower than 75, students MUST attend 1 hour of tutoring. A score of 65 or below students must attend 2 hours of tutoring. This must be documented by the AC tutoring services, completion of tutoring allows students to re-take the quiz.

Attendance

4 unexcused absences will result in a failing grade. The absentee form (provided by professor) must follow all absences. Each Tardy (10 minutes late) shall count as 1/2 absence. After the 4th absence the student will be presented with a withdrawal form, it is the students responsibility to process this form prior to the deadline or receive a failing grade.

Due to Covid Protocol, if you are exposed you must attend online. All courses will be offered online via Zoom, the same link will be used throughout the course. All classes will be recorded and a link provided for you to watch the course material.

If you are positive with Covid or have any serious illness exceptions will be made on a per student basis. Please stay in contact with your teachers.

All assignments and course calender due dates will be posted in Blackboard. It is the students responsibility to login to Blackboard on a regular basis. Students are responsible for all curricular content posted in Blackboard. Late submissions for Homework will be deducted 10% per day.

Additional Information

We are here to ensure your success! Tutoring is available through the AC tutoring center. All you have to do is 1) ATTEND CLASS, 2) Complete your homework assignments, 3) Prepare for Exams. As long as you are trying your best we will help you succeed.

Students who fall behind or are tested as deficient must receive tutoring outside of class. A tutor will be made available for this course, it is the students responsibility to schedule tutoring and regain course pace. Any Quiz or Exam score lower than 75, students MUST attend 1 hour of tutoring. A score of 65 or below students must attend 2 hours of tutoring. This must be documented by the AC tutoring services, completion of tutoring allows students to re-take the quiz.

Any student with an average failing grade after spring break will be advised to drop the course. It is the students responsibility to withdraw.

Texting: Text messages are for urgent business, I will stop whatever I am doing and respond to a text (if driving I will pull over and respond). Sending me a text message is for urgent needs, if it something that is not urgent pleasue use e-mail! Please do not abuse this privledge, but know that I am available for you in urgent situations.
