Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Students enrolled in an educational program in preparation for obtaining certain occupational licenses are potentially ineligible for such license if the student has been convicted of an offense. For further information, please contact your advisor, the Legal Clinic, or the faculty member in charge of the educational program that you seek to enroll in. The further information you will receive will include notification to you of your right to request a criminal history evaluation letter from the licensing authority in order to clarify your particular situation.

Textbooks

Textbooks will be provided for this course by your instructor during class.

 

Supplies

Internet access is required for this course.  Students may use the computers in Room 010 or 12A in the basement of the Ware Student Commons or on the fourth floor of the Ware Student Commons to complete their homework and lab assignments.  Students may also access their homework assignments via the Internet at home or at any public library. 

Other supplies required include paper, pen, and pencil.

Log in using the AC Connect Portal

In order to receive your AC Connect Email, you must log in through AC Connect at https://acconnect.actx.edu .

If you are an active staff or faculty member according to Human Resources, use "Exchange". All other students, use "AC Connect (Google) Email".

Expected Student Behavior

  1. Students should use proper classroom etiquette.
  2. Any type of cheating or academic dishonesty is prohibited.  The “Student Rights and Responsibilities” publication outlines the definition of academic dishonesty and the associated penalties.

Grading Criteria

The following criteria will be used to determine your grade:

 A   90-100  Passing
B  80-89  Passing
C  70-79  Passing
D  60-69  Failing
F  59 or below  Failing

 

The semester average will be determined as follows:

  10%  Quizzes
  15%  Lab
  15%  Assignments
  10%  Projects
  30%  Tests
  20%  Final Exam

 

QUIZZES:

Assigned writing must be completed each day outside of class. Students will complete daily quizzes at the beginning of each class.

LAB

Assigned lab must be completed each week.  Lab assignments will include computer lessons from Reading Plus or other activities approved by your instructor.  Weekly lab grades will be based on completion of the required hours and the number of lessons completed.  Completion of weekly lab hours with adequate performance will result in a grade of 100.  Failure to meet this requirement will result in a grade of zero (0).  When a student is logged into a computer for the purpose of accumulating lab hours required for a reading class, the student must be actively involved in the lesson at all times.

PROJECTS:

Two projects must be completed by the assigned due date.

TESTS:

Four major tests must be taken during class. 

FINAL EXAM:

The Final Exam must be taken in class on the assigned days.  Students who have a passing course average, a passing lab average, a passing test average, and no more than two (2) absences or zeroes on daily quizzes are exempt from the Final Exam.

MAKE-UP POLICY:  

  • Quizzes must be taken at the beginning of the class period and may not be made up.  Absence or tardiness will result in a grade of zero (0) on the daily quiz.
  • Classroom assignments may be made up if prior arrangements are made with the instructor.
  • Homework assignments must be completed on time and may not be made up. 
  • Projects submitted by the due date are eligible for full credit.  Ten (10) points will be deducted from all late projects turned in within one week of the due date.  All projects not submitted within one week of the scheduled due date will receive a grade of zero (0).
  • Tests taken by the due date are eligible for full credit.  Ten (10) points will be deducted from all late tests taken within one week of the due date.  All tests not taken within one week of the scheduled due date will receive a grade of zero (0).

RE-TEST POLICY:  

  • Students may retake a failed test after attending two (2) tutoring sessions in the Reading & Writing Lab in WARE 010.  Each tutoring session is approximately one (1) hour.  The Re-Test grade will replace the failing grade up to a score of 70.  Re-Tests must be scheduled.  The R&W Testing Center (WARE 012A) will be open Monday-Wednesday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Thursday, 9:00 AM - 8:30 PM, and Friday 9:00 AM – 12:00 noon during the assigned testing weeks.

Attendance

Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement.  Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class.  It will be the responsibility of the student to drop the class by the withdrawal date should he/she stop attending; otherwise, a grade of "F" will be given.

A student who is not TSI met in all areas must be continuously enrolled in one or more developmental education courses until TSI complete.

NOTE

A student may take the TSI Assessment anytime during the semester.  If he/she receives a score indicating college-readiness on the reading portion of the test, the student should immediately visit with the instructor to discuss options available at that time.
