On Campus Course
Nancy Caroline’s Emergency Care in the Streets Vol 1 and Vol 2 Seventh Edition
At the completion of this course, the student will have demonstrated sufficient mastery of the course objectives, listed at the beginning of each text chapter, to effectively assess and manage patients. It is desired that course goals be accomplished to the extent that the student’s final grade is not less than a grade of “C” as evaluated by the program faculty. A final grade less than “C” will result in failure of the course.
In order to receive your AC Connect Email, you must log in through AC Connect at https://acconnect.actx.edu .
If you are an active staff or faculty member according to Human Resources, use "Exchange". All other students, use "AC Connect (Google) Email".
Students will be required to abide by the Student Code of Conduct, which can be accessed in the Student's Rights and Responsibilities link above. Cell phones must be on silent mode during class. No texting during class will be allowed. Students may use laptops, tablets, or notebook computers in class for note taking and other classwork. No social media should be used during class.
***ABUSIVE, VULGAR, LEWD, OR PROFANE SPEECH WILL NOT BE TOLERATED***
Students will be evaluated in three learning domains: cognitive, psychomotor, and affective. Each domain MUST be successfully mastered to pass the course. Failure of any one domain constitutes failure of the class.
Cognitive |
Psychomotor |
Affective |
Criterion: A final grade of "C" or higher – as evaluated by course faculty. |
Criterion: Failure of any single skill more than 2 times will constitute failure of this class |
Criterion: The student must have “Competent” ratings, maintained throughout, in all categories of the Professional Behavior Evaluation form |
Students should NOT expect decimal grade rounding. |
Performance:
Regular attendance is mandatory for successful completion of this course
Note: Skills examinations may be administered as laboratory practical exams. All skills exams must be performed to a level deemed satisfactory by the skills examiner.
The skills examiner will use the criteria of the Texas Department of State Health Services and/or the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians to evaluate skills performance.
The skills examination forms are in FISDAP for study, practice, and evaluation. |
Performance Categories:
This Domain assessed with each Major Exam and the Final
Category specifics are available on demand by the student. |
Assignment Percentages of Grade
Fisdap Maintenance:
A 1-point deduction from your FINAL average will be taken for each "late" Fisdap email I receive regardless of the class in which it occurred.
Furthermore, each student is required to sign-up for FISDAP lab schedules PRIOR to the announce deadline. If a student does not do so, the student may be advised to withdraw from the course or receive a grade of "F" for the course.
Remember: Fisdap requires a one-time fee of $80 to establish a student's account.
Grading Scale:
A student who will not complete a Module Exam on the scheduled day must contact the instructor before the scheduled exam. If the absence is excused, the test must be taken ON or BEFORE the next class session. A grade of ZERO for that exam will be averaged in if this policy is not followed.
Exit-Final Summative Exam
Students must successfully complete an Exit-Final, summative examination. Results of this examination are independent and irrespective of prior, individual course performances…an all-or-nothing type situation. Students must therefore understand, though your transcript may reflect a perfect 4.0 GPA, failure of the Exit-Final process constitutes failure of the entire EMSP program. As such, students WILL NOT advance to the National Registry as potential testing candidates (CoAEMSP standard IV.A.1). More details are provided in the EMSP Advanced Student Handbook provided in class. See your instructor immediately for questions and/or clarifications.
Attendance is CRITICAL to your success in this class. Each class session contributes towards your course grade; which, due to the nature of this course, is HEAVILY weighted towards attendance and participation.
