Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Course Description

Principles and concepts of mental health, psychopathology and treatment modalities related to the nursing care of patients and their families. This course lends itself to a blocked approach.

Supplies

Students are required to have regular, reliable access to a computer with a sable internet.  Mobile devices can be Laptops and/or Tablets with a Webcam.

Clinical requirement:  Mobile device- Maximum or 9 inches, in order to fit in lab coat pocket.

Operating system:  Window 7,8m, or 10; Mac OSX 10.6, 10.7, 10.8, or 10.9.  These need to be full operating systems.

Processor:  1 GHz, recommended, 2 GHz or faster processor.

Memory:  512 MB of RAM, recommended 2 GB of RAM or higher.

Free Hard Disk Space:  5 GB of free Disk Space, Recommended, 20 GB or higher of free space.

Expected Student Behavior

As students you are considered full partners in helping to develop a classroom environment which is conducive (positive) to learning.  In order to assure that all students have the opportunity to gain from the time spent in class it is expected that unless approved by the instructor, as part of a learning activity, that students will not engage in any activity or behavior that takes away from the learning environment (milieu).  Any inappropriate behavior in the classroom may/will result in the student that is asked to leave the classroom and student behavior for will be sent through blackboard about this incident (see Associate Degree Nursing Student Handbook, Professional Conduct, American Nurses Association Code of Ethics, and the AC student Rights and Responsibilities).

It is expected that students will come to class prepared for class with the appropriate “home work” completed; this is to include chapter readings, videos to watch, assignments to complete and bring to class for discussion, and printed PowerPoints for that days lecture.  It is also expected that students are at least 15 minutes early for any testing in order to get ready to test.  Also, if a student cannot be at the test it is that student’s responsibility to contact the instructor of record and arrange for a make-up test.

Grading Criteria

Grading criteria and grading scale

  1. A=90-100, B=80-89, C=75-79, D=60-69, F=below 60
  2. The will be three module exams worth 25% each.  A HESI specialty exam worth 5% and a final worth 20%.
  3. HESI remediation is required and the hours is based on your HESI score:
