III. Daily Quizzes: To be present in class regularly and on-time is the CORE REQUIREMENT to pass this course. Daily Quizzes are designed mainly due to this, that is to make students mandate to attend every single class !! No Excuse !! Daily Quizzes will be taken at the first 15 minutes of each class according to the 'Course Calendar'. No Late !! No Excuse !! Lowest scored two of them will be dropped in calculating the average at the End of the semester.
IV. Homework Quizzes (closed books, no calculator, only with opened HW assignments): Must have assigned homework ready in details only at the HW Quiz days according to the 'Course Calendar'. These Homework Quizzes will be given usually on every Mondays at the last 15 minutes of the class (if changes, then will be decided in class). You will be asked to copy 2 to 4 problems from your homework assignments from preceding week's HW assignments (you cannot use the textbook or calculator). The lowest scored HW Quiz will be dropped in calculating the average at the end of the semester.
V. 100% presence is required to succeed this course. Spontaneous class participation is also required. Every day attendance will be graded at the End of the semester by percentage.
SOME GENERAL RULES:
1. Be prepared for the Daily Quizzes everyday, there will be only 2 or 3 or 4 problems. No late!!! Quiz papers will be collected exactly after 15 minutes of the class! Your Instructor will be present on-time and regularly; same is required from you, too !!
2. For HW Quizzes, Homework Notebook must be ready on every MONDAY with all last week's assigned HW problems done with Ex. No. and Problem No. clearly, and with all necessary steps. You are recommended to have these as much neat and clean as you are sure to copy the asked problems on your HW Quiz script within the assigned time of exactly 15 minutes. This Homework Notebook is your only material for the Homework quizzes.
3. Anything that is wrong or needs to be corrected in your Quizzes and Exams must be clearly erased. Don't write, doodle, or perform mathematical calculations in the margins on your Quiz/Exam papers. I will be the judge as to what is neat. Just because you can read it doesn't mean that I can interpret it. Homework must be neat and legible for your own ease of understanding.
3. Any missing problem/s in the HW quizzes and Daily Quizzes will be graded zero.
4. At the top of the first page of the quiz scripts, you must place your name, your class 1414-003, and your instructor's name: Sabera Muna. Quiz scripts must be single-paged, do not write at the back. Multiple pages must be stapled carefully. Problems must be presented in an orderly manner with the problem running a single column down the left half of the page. You may use the right half of the page for graphs, tables and drawings. Any problem (excluding graphs) with work presented in anything except the first column will not receive credit. Each line must contain only one equal sign, "=." All final answers must be boxed or circled to receive credit. Any problem with the answer not circled or boxed in will not be graded.Any assignment without the proper heading will not be accepted and will be recorded with a grade of zero.
5. If you have more than one page to turn in for the quizzes, the pages must be stapled together on the top left corner. Multiple pages that are not stapled or held together by a paper clip, folded corner, etc. will not be accepted and will be recorded with a grade of zero. You must staple multiple pages together.
6. If accidentally or incidentally you are absent, it is your responsibility to contact another student to find out the class-lessons for that missing class and/or any important announcement/s in class. You may call and leave a message or text on my cell-phone 312-730-0708, or e-mail me at s0590361@actx.edu, but you take the chance that I may not retrieve the message before the due date.
7. Exams: Four major regular exams and a comprehensive final exam will be taken. If you miss a major exam out of four, the grade on your final exam will be used to replace the missing grade of that. I do not offer make-up exams. If you know ahead of time that you will be missing an exam, you may schedule to take the exam earlier than the scheduled time-frame, but not on later anyway.! If you miss more than one exam (remember the first missed one will be replaced by your grade on the final exam) a second missed exam will be recorded as a zero. If you do not miss any exam and your final exam score is higher than your lowest exam score, the lowest exam-score will be replaced by your final exam-score.
8. I do not give extra credit work.
9. Using Blackboard to print class materials, get your grades, contact your instructor, find class announcements, etc.: Students are required to log in to Blackboard regularly to check the course announcements, calendar, e-mails, grades and print class handouts. To access our course area in Blackboard:
1. Go to https://acconnect.actx.edu and log in. Your log in information is the same as your Web Advisor log in. If you need help contact askAC at 371-5000 and they can lead you in the right direction. You may also contact the STL helpdesk at 371-5992.
2. Once you are logged in, click on our course
3. Then you will see any links you will need on the left hand side of the screen.
9. Final: Under NO circumstances will the final be given late (i.e. No Make Ups)! The final will be comprehensive and will be given according to the published Finals Schedule in our regular classroom.
Free Help: If you feel yourself getting behind in class or having problems with certain concepts covered, get help immediately. It is YOUR responsibility to get help.
The following are a few ways to get FREE help outside of class:
1. Your instructor is your first, BEST resource for help. Please feel free to stay longer or remain in your classroom after the class is over to talk to me or to make an appointment.
2. The course website has links to helpful resources on each of the topics covered. Remember that the key is to start your homework assignment EARLY so that you have plenty of time to work each problem as many times as possible to get the highest grade.
3. Free one-on-one tutoring at the Student Outreach Center in Durrett 104 is available. You will need your AC ID to sign in. Hours: MTWR 8am - 8pm, Fri 8am - 8pm, Sat 9am - 8pm, Sun closed.
4.Get free tutoring from Student Support Services (Library, 371-5420)
Attendance: Regular class attendance is REQUIRED for this advanced Algebra course as this is the bridge program to prepare you for Calculus. Everyday class attendance will be graded at the End of the semester with the weight of 10% on the 'Overall Score'. Non-attendance and/or more than 10 minutes late will be recorded as 'absent' and will be graded as '0' for that day. Students arriving more than 10 minutes late or leaving the class earlier before the instructior's dismissal - both will marked 'absent' and will be graded '0'.
If you are absent for any reason, you are responsible for obtaining the assignments and notes. Remember that the deadline for withdrawing from any class at AC for Summer II 2018 Semester is August 02, Thursday. If you stop attending class and your average drops below 60, due to missed assignments and you do not officially drop the course by this deadline, you will receive an F for the course.
