Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

Preparation for elementary and middle school teachers of science to supplement science knowledge and increase confidence levels of science instruction. Hands-on activities and survey of topics in biology which will include structure and systems, energy transformations, change over time, interactions and scientific world view.

Students enrolled in an educational program in preparation for obtaining certain occupational licenses are potentially ineligible for such license if the student has been convicted of an offense. For further information, please contact your advisor, the Legal Clinic, or the faculty member in charge of the educational program that you seek to enroll in. The further information you will receive will include notification to you of your right to request a criminal history evaluation letter from the licensing authority in order to clarify your particular situation.

Supplies needed include any necessary to take notes. Computer access will also be necessary that contains Microsoft Office products, such as Word and Power Point, as well as internet access. All materials are available for purchase through the AC Bookstore.

Students are expected to behave in a manner that is least distracting to the instructor and fellow students. Furthermore, students are expected to show up and participate in class discussions and assignments. There are NO make-ups! So, please, do not ask.
GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE:
If a student is having a problem with the course policies or the instructor, he or she should first try and resolve any such problems with the instructor. WITHDRAW:
A grade of "W" will be given for drops or withdraws on or before the published official withdraw date. You may not drop or withdraw after that date.

LECTURE EXAMS: This will make up 40% of your semester grade. There will be 3 exams. There will be 1 exam drop grade that will be used for your lowest grade or missed exam. There will be no make up exams. The final exam is mandatory, comprehensive, and cannot be dropped.
LABS/ACTIVITIES (In-class and/or Online): This will make up 25% of your semester grade. Any in-class and/or online assignments will be conducted in class and/or posted on AC Connect. Labs/ activities cannot be made up. Late arrivals or early departure may result in lower grades for class activities. There will be 1 drop grade for this section.
CLASS/ONLINE ASSIGNMENTS (In-class and/or Online): This will make up 10% of your semester grade. Any in-class and/or online assignments will be conducted in class and/or posted on AC Connect. In-class and online assignments cannot be made up. Late arrivals or early departure may result in lower grades for class activities. There will be 1 drop grade for this section.
FINAL EXAM: This will make up 25% of your final semester grade. The final is comprehensive. This exam cannot be dropped.
Students are expected to be on time and attend all classes. Students should go through AC Connect to check Blackboard weekly for online assignments, announcements, and preparedness for in classroom work. In-class activities cannot be made up. Late arrivals or early departure may result in lower grades.

TESTING: Science Testing Center (STC)
All tests, excluding take-home exams and final exams, will be taken in the STC during days scheduled by the teacher during normal STC hours. Tests will be taken outside of class lecture time. Please note: No test may be started less than one hour before the STC closes. You must present an Amarillo College student ID every time you take a test. The Science Testing Center staff will retain your ID while you take your test and will return it to you when you turn in your test. No appointments are necessary.

MANDATORY TUTORING: Science Tutoring and Success Center (STSC)
In an effort to increase retention in Biology courses, any student who scores below a 70 on any exam (excluding the Final Exam week) must complete a 1 hour mandatory tutoring session in the STSC or with his/her instructor before taking the next exam.
Before getting mandatory tutoring, students must first make a tutoring session appointment with the STSC by either calling or visiting. The STSC will do its best to accommodate a student’s schedule within the STSC hours of operation. This may require plenty of advanced notice by the student as time slots fill quickly. Upon arrival in the STSC, students must inform STSC staff that they are there for mandatory tutoring.
Mandatory tutoring will not require remediation over a failed test.
