Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

Course Description

Fundamentals of engine operation, diagnosis and repair. Emphasis on identification, inspection, measurements, disassembly, repair and reassembly of the engine. May be taught manufacturer specific.

 End-of-Course Outcomes:  Utilize appropriate safety procedures; explain engine operating principles; demonstrate engine diagnostic procedures; and repair cylinder head, valve train, block assembly, lubrication, and cooling system

Course Objectives:

1.

Complete work order to include customer information, vehicle identifying information, customer concern, related service history, cause, and correction.

Research vehicle service information including fluid type, internal engine

operation, vehicle service history, service precautions, and technical

service bulletins.

Verify operation of the instrument panel engine warning indicators.

Inspect engine assembly for fuel, oil, coolant, and other leaks; determine needed action.

5.

Install engine covers using gaskets, seals, and sealers as required.

Perform common fastener and thread repair, to include: remove broken

bolt, restore internal and external threads, and repair internal threads with

Inspect, remove and/or replace engine mounts.

Perform cooling system pressure and dye tests to identify leaks; check coolant condition and level; inspect and test radiator, pressure cap, coolant recovery tank, heater core, and galley plugs; determine needed action.

Identify causes of engine overheating.

Inspect, replace, and/or adjust drive belts, tensioners, and pulleys; check pulley and belt alignment.

Late work will be accepted with a deduction of 30 points no later than three days after due date.

Attendance

You are expected to attend all class meetings on time and stay for the whole class. Points will be deducted from your attendance and participation for not complying.

Three tardies ( more than ten minutes after the start of class or leaving before class is concluded) equal an absence.

Ten points will be deducted from your final grade for each absence.
