Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

Supply List: Please wait to purchase anything until after our first class meeting when we cover the syllabus. Some items may only be used once or twice during the semester.
Bring any supplies you have that are similar to the ones below if you are unsure if it will meet the requirements. Not all supplies are required at once. We will discuss what needs to be purchased right away on day one.
STORAGE
Flash Drive or external hard drive 32gb or higher recommended.
Wacom Intuos Small CTL4100 . (This is the small drawing tablet- I recommend getting the one without bluetooth support - Avg. price is $79) Can be ordered online at Wacom, Best Buy, Wal-Mart.
1 Sketchbook - for weekly rough sketches ( a small sketchbook works fine)
1 Sketchpad - must fit on a standard scanner - something like a 9x12 100 lb Strathmore Bristol (Recommended)

PrismaColor Col-Erase NP Blue Pencil (with eraser), PrismaColor Red Pencil with Eraser - Both recommended for creating initial rough sketches.

BUDGET - Set aside $100 for additional Materials and printing costs for the semester. (notice will be given in advance if and when prints or other materials are needed)
The overall goal is to create media digitally and traditionally to be used for advertising, entertainment, and/or personal use. We will cover how to plan, research, sketch, organize and digitally create content from concept to completion. We will use traditional media like pencils, pen and ink to digital software like Illustrator and Photoshop.
Course Goals/Objectives — Identify and define basic design terminology. Identify the advantages and limitations of creating illustrations using traditional and digital media. Create vector and raster images using Adobe software. Learn which traditional drawing tools are industry standard and implement them into our creative design process to prepare content for advertising and animation. Demonstrate good design habits like proper time management, file organizing, archiving and exhibit a professional attitude while being critiqued and critiquing peer designs.

—WHILE IN CLASS: A student friendly environment is needed for learning. There are FIVE major (5) guidelines each student must adhere to.
1). NO headphones in class unless specified by instructor.
2). NO streaming music or videos in class unless assigned by instructor.
3). NO undesirable visual or verbal communication.
4). NO eating or drinking in the lab. (could get on keyboard or computer)
5). Cell phones must be turned silenced or turned completely OFF.
Continual disregard for set guidelines will result in removal from class and a zero (0) for day which will be averaged with the rest of your grades.
Do not ask to leave early to work on your assignments from home. (especially if you are behind on assignments) Lab time is for working on assigned projects and lessons. This is to ensure deadlines are met.
Having the proper tools the student will complete all tasks required. The instructor will provide lecture, demonstration and or group discussion to help the student complete each task.
The nature of the Industry dictates that anyone with below entry levels skills will not be hired in the workforce: therefore, any student with below a grade average of a 70 will receive an “F” for the class.
The FINAL GRADE is based on the average of the following:
A = 89.5 - 100
B = 79.5 - 89.4
C = 69.5 - 79.4
D = 59.5 - 69.4
F = 0 - 59.4
AC Connect course grade book: Your course grades are accessed through the “My Grades” link on the Course menu in our AC Connect course as well as other links in AC Connect. Your individual course grades earned for lessons, projects, and the final project will appear in your AC Connect Grade book as well as a running grade average for the course. You can access your grade book through the "My Grades" link on our AC Connect Course Menu as well as other access points through AC Connect.
Due Dates of Course Work: Students are responsible for checking the Weekly handout folder in the Dropbox found inside the on-campus student server. (assignments and projects are subject to change) If a student lesson or project is submitted late by the student due to a course wide malfunction of AC Connect or server problem, the instructor will accept the assignment or project late or arrange a makeup assignment without penalty to the student.
The final project must be taken during the designated time on the calendar. In the case of a medical or family emergency, the project may be made up at the discretion of the instructor if the student provides documentation of the emergency to the instructor.
No student will be exempt from the final project.
Checking the Course Each Week: This is an in class course and students are required to show up on time. Check the Syllabus for course work deadlines ; read all information pertaining to each Lesson at the beginning of lesson in the provided textbook; and complete all course work on time to insure student success in the course. You must submit all lessons and projects by their designated deadline, attend class every day for lecture and critiques, and submit your final projects on time. Failure to do so will result in late penalties for your course grades. If you are having trouble participating in the course due to a medical or family emergency, please communicate the circumstances to me. Failure to communicate may result in zero's for missed work.
Extra Credit: No Extra Credit is given in the course.
FINAL EXAM: LATE SUBMISSIONS ARE NOT ALLOWED – NO EXCEPTIONS
ATTENDANCE: — Students are allowed one (1) week of absences from class. Student’s final grade will be lowered by one letter grade for each additional week missed. One point off final grade average for every week of tardiness.
NO EXCEPTIONS! 3 absences = NO ACTION 2 tardiness = 1 POINT OFF FINAL GRADE
NO EXCEPTIONS! 4 absences = 1 LETTER GRADE 4 tardiness = 2 POINTS OFF FINAL GRADE

Evaluation — As a performance oriented course, evaluation is based on observable competence in the works produced, application of manual, mechanical and electronic techniques and procedures, and intellectual problem solving abilities as well as industry standards set forth by the instructor.
