Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) **Book is recommended if Microsoft Access is a fairly new application for you.**

MyITLab Account – You will use MyITLab for your Microsoft Access 2016 homework.  If you have a MyITLab account from another class (ITSC 2335) in Fall 2018 or you are taking the class concurrently this semester, you can use the same access code for this class.  The MYITLAB code is valid for 1 year.

Microsoft Access 2016 – As a CIS student, you can download a free copy of MS Access 2016 through Microsoft Imagine.  You will be getting an email to your AmarilloCollege email account soon. The email will give you instructions on how to access your Imagine account to download the software.

  • Learn basic relational terminology
  • Learn the meaning and importance of different types of keys
  • Be able to model data using the Entity-Relational Model
  • Transform the Entity Relational data model into relational designs
  • Apply the normalization process
  • Know how to represent weak entities
  • Represent 1:1, 1:N and N:M binary relationships
  • Represent 1:1, 1:N and N:M recursive relationships
  • Learn Microsoft Access for creating database structures, adding data to a database, modifying and deleting data from a database, modifying and deleting tables and constraints
  • Know basic administrative and managerial DBA functions
  • Understand the need for database administration including concurrency control, security, backup, recovery (reprocessing, rollback/rollforward)
  • Understand locking, deadlock, optimistic, pessimistic locking
  • Know how to improve database security

Expected Student Behavior

Students are expected to maintain a high standard of individual honor in their scholastic work.  Students who are guilty of cheating, plagiarism, copying, or dishonesty may be excluded from class with a grade of F; or, in flagrant cases, may be suspended from the College.  The faculty of the CIS Department reserves the right to ask a student to verify any portion of a test by reproducing any specific section or all of the test in question.
 
Any action that compromises the computer systems at Amarillo College , including but not limited to hacking or cracking, can result in a grade of “F” in this course and possible further disciplinary action.

Grading Criteria

Final grades will be assigned as indicated below:

A - Superior, Minimum of 90% average on exams and quizzes plus all homework turned in with a 90% average on that graded.

B - Good, Between 80% and 89.49% average on exams and quizzes plus all homework turned in with a minimum average of 80% on that graded.

C - Adequate, Between 70% and 79.49% average on all work.

D - Minimum, Between 60% and 69.49% average on all work.

F - Failing, Below 60% average on all work.

Except for the Final exam and the Chapter Project, All work is due on Sunday night 11:00 pm of the week assigned.

All Week 1 assignments must be completed by Monday (3/25 @ 10pm), in order to be considered Present in the course. Failure to complete all assignments by this date may lead to an administrative drop from the course.

Unless prior arrangements have been made, after 2 unexcused absenses, 2 points are deducted from the participation grade for each unexcused absense (out of a possible 5 points)
